Dutch Dune Design designs and manufactures furniture made of wooden redundant bulb boxes, also known as mesh trays. With a view to recycling, the old flower boxes are completely disassembled. Staples and nails are removed and the strips are cut to size, ready to embrace a new lease of life as a beautiful piece of furniture with an historic look.

The product and its history
Many hours of preparation go into creating each unique piece of Dutch Dune Design furniture. The discarded bulb boxes are first collected from the bulb growers. Each box contains individual identifiers such as the bulb company name, place and date, all of which are, applied in a variation of colours. An enabler, in times begone, for related bulb growers to easily recognize their product whilst at auction. These markers are a key design element in the Dutch Design pieces. From these wooden slats craftsmanship is applied to produce the likes of a table or bench. The finishing touch is a high gloss clear varnish or epoxy. This provides not only a beautiful sheen but acts as scratch-resistant surface. Dutch Dune Design also uses old stamps from the bulb world, injecting individualism into each creation. No single piece is the same.Bespoke requests and orders are welcomed as Dutch Dune Design will happily create items to meet individual customer specifications in alignment to desired tastes and requirements.
The beginning
Childhood friends, Jan den Hollander (interior decorator) and Roland van Duijn (creative designer), are the brains behind Dutch Design Dune. They grew up together in the well renowned Dutch Bulb district, where towers of their predecessor’s bulb boxes loomed high and were a familiar sight. Together they share a passion for art, vintage, furniture and entrepreneurship.
